Richa fuses sportswear with couture ideals at LFW

When it comes to creating unconventional fashion with popular fabrics, the collection by Richa Aggarwal, was a fusion of “sportswear with couture ideals”, which made an unusual impact at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013.

Experimenting profusely with traditional hand embroidery and bringing in an eclectic mix of fabrics like rice sacks and hand block printed jersey; Richa explored the limitless possibilities of surface ornamentation and construction.

Bringing in a colourful, folksy, peasant girl look with Indian inputs; there was comfort and volume in the garments, which offered numerous mix and match options. Plastic hem pinafore dress, tissue shirt and parrot stole were teamed to present fun dressing while a printed single jersey tunic with shorts had subdued glitter.

A pair of gilets worn together in bright hues was an interesting dressing style. Hand embroidered, foil printed shirt, reversible embellished bomber jacket, printed jumpsuit and high waist palazzos were a wide cross section of western wear with marked ethnic influences.

Following the norms of her label that presents contrasts on all fronts, Richa’s collection offered unconventional blends of Indian culture from the vibrant streets of cities to the recycling of everyday fashion by the common wearer.

For style that was stylishly reinvented with a modern perspective, Richa Aggarwal’s collection offered a simple, traditional yet at times complicated trend story.
